Federal Death Cases

The United States can seek the federal death penalty in any state or territory of the country, even in states that do not have the death penalty.  Three federal executions have taken place since 2001.

In Florida, there have been only four federal death cases.  Only eight trial lawyers in Florida have actually tried a federal death case.  Two of those eight trial lawyers are founding partners, Jeffrey Brown and Patrick Doherty, and their particular case was the first in Tampa.  They were able to get their client a life sentence.
